Back to School for Genealogists





PCGS and Tucson OASIS are again teaming up to offer three beginner to intermediate genealogy classes in October. OASIS is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and over through life long learning, healthy living, and social engagement. Please visit the Tucson OASIS website for the Fall 2013 catalog and registration. You may also pick up a catalog at any of the Pima County Public Library locations.

The genealogy classes offered during the Fall trimester are:


525 Shake Your Family Tree: Getting Started with Family History
Would you like to find out about your family history, but don't know where to begin? This beginner's class will give you a foundation for getting started with your research. You will get an introduction to the types of records available, how to find them, and what to do with the information once you have found it. Skill Level: Beginner.

237 Sleuthing Your Family History with Free Online Database
This course will cover how to use message boards, e-mail lists, Cyndi's List, and finding and using Look Up volunteers. We will go over searching databases on Family Search, Ancestry, Fold3, GenealogyBank, etc. We will also discuss free research courses, webinars and other learning opportunities. Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate.

123 The U.S. Census: Every Family Historian's Favorite Tool
The U.S. census is the only record that provides clues to an entire family unit. Where was your ancestor in 1900 or in 1940? You might be able to trace your family as they migrated across the U.S. in federal census records. This course is designed to guide you in finding out more information about your family from 1850 to 1940 in the population censuses that were taken every ten years in the U.S. Skill Level: Beginner.
