Tombstone Tuesday - Charles Siems, Ziems, Seames

This Tuesday's Tombstone brought to you by member Al Seames:

The pictures below represent my hunt for the grave of my great-grand father Charles SIEMS, ZIEMS, SEAMES.  He was buried in the North Street Cemetery in Buffalo, NY in 1882 and later in 1901 was moved to the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY ( a suburb of Buffalo).  He died at age  25, cause unknown, and left a widow with three small children.  It took several visits and letters to locate the cemetery where the North Street Cemetery remains were reburied.  Finding the grave in the sea of green turf that was about 3 to 4 inches thick was another problem ( see picture before turf was pulled away).

Because Charles died at such a young age there are few things known about his parents except his mother was a widow when he was married.  Best I can determine his father, Karl or Charles, died when he was somewhere between 10 and 17 years old.   His marriage record and his son's census records indicate he was born in Buffalo, NY but I have not been able to find a baptism record or any record in City Directories of his family living in Buffalo until his mother shows as a widow in 1875.

Arizona Family Expo, Mesa, Arizona - January 20-21th

Attention Tucson researchers:  the Mesa Family Library is closed  both January 20-21.  Come a day early to research at the library or spend the morning of the 20th (expo starts at 1 pm for registration) with the Genealogy  Collection, housed in the Law and Research Library at the State Capitol.   The library is home to family histories, community histories, genealogy journals, online genealogical services and genealogy for just about every state and  region in the United States.  You can search the library's catalog at Library Catalog Searches.  The Law and Research Library is located at 1700 W. Washington Street, Suite 300, in Phoenix.

DNA Talk on January 14, 2012

On Saturday, January 14, 2012 the program for the DNA SIG at UMC Room 2117 will be a talk on use of DNA by Dr. Matt Kaplan, Director of the Bio5 DNA testing lab that does all the testing for National Geographic Genographic Project and for Family Tree DNA. Matt is a master presenter, and makes this subject very understandable. Don't miss this opportunity!

Wedding Wednesday - Katzenstein and Trexler

This is the marriage of Miss Katherine Adele Katzenstein to Mr. William Harry TREXLER on 22 September (year unknown) in Sussex County, New Jersey.  This is not my family but my grandmother, Beatrice (Repsher) Strait, was a good friend.  She recently passed away and I inherited her newspaper/photo collection.  If this is your family I would like to send the newspaper clipping to you.  Shared by Jodi Strait-Shutts.
