Storytellers is an online writers group that meets the third Sunday of every month from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. There are currently four members and we are looking for a fifth to join our group. What makes our group unique is that all meetings are conducted as Google+ Hangout video chats. The beauty of meeting online is that you don’t have to miss a meeting just because you are out of town as long as you have access to the required equipment.
Equipment requirements are a computer, a high-speed internet connection, and a webcam and microphone (most webcams come equipped with built in mics). It is also recommended to use either headphones or earbuds to avoid echoing (caused by your camera’s microphone picking up what is coming out of the computer’s speaker).
We never assign topics—each member chooses what he or she wants to write and the style in which s/he wishes to write it. The topics of the writing varies from personal memoirs to biographies to traditional family histories in the style of NGS Quarterly. The purpose of the group is to improve each person’s writing skills by providing constructive criticism and suggestions about the work submitted. In that spirit, every member of the group is welcome to attend every meeting to provide feedback to the rest of the members, even if s/he has not produced a paper for review that month.
If you are interested in becoming a Storyteller, please email the Pima County Genealogy Society at pimacountygenealogysociety@
gmail.com with your contact information. A member of the group will contact you with additional guidelines for joining and to answer any questions you may have.
