George Theodore Albert Skibbe (1896-1950) and Alma Theresa Spenner (1897-1995) on their wedding day, 20 Nov 1919 in North Judson, Starke County, Indiana.  They became the parents of four children:  Mildred born in 1921, Cecil born in 1923, Robert 1929 and George 1932.  This wedding photo is being shared by Amy Urman.

Family History Expo - Mesa Arizona Jan 20-21, 2012

It's back for the fourth year in a row - the Family History Expo in Mesa, Arizona.  Events dates are January 20th thru the 21st.  The Expo will take place at the Mesa Convention Center, 236 N. Center Street, Mesa, Arizona.

RootsMagic User Group Meets December 3 - Highlighting Version 5

There will be a Roots Magic Support Group Meeting on Saturday, December 3 from 1 to 3 pm in Room 2117 at the College of Medicine.

 

You should have received the information on Version 5 in today's email. I went online, ordered the new version CD (which does not ship until December 12). After I received my new Key, I downloaded Version 5. I seem to be having better luck with the new Roots-Magic-To-Go with this version.

 

There is a webinar tomorrow from 5 to 6 pm entitled What's New to RootsMagic 4. So I signed up for it. There was still space. If you are interested in watching this webinar, go to the RootsMagic site and click on Webinars.

 

We will discuss the changes in Version 5. You do not have to change from Version 4 if you are happy with it.

Tombstone Tuesday - Jan Westra and Magdelena Terpstra

This week's Tombstone Tuesday post is from Jodi Strait-Shutts:

Jan WESTRA and Magdelena TERPSTRA are my great-grandparents.  I am looking for further information about Jan and Magdelena Westra; I don't know their parents or even where this tombstone is located in the Netherlands.   Two of their sons, Ale (Albert) and Herman Westra, came over to America in the 1920s.   Ale, who changed his name to Albert when he became a naturalized citizen, was my maternal grandfather.  Ale was born 13 Mar 1908 in Dronjirp, Friesland, Netherlands.   Other known children of Jan and Magdelena are Ella Harke WESTRA, Mine WESTRA and Reintje WESTRA.

Monday Madness: French Translation Needed

One of our society members is looking for assistance to translate French in old (1900) handwriting. We all know how "maddening" it is to have a source and not be able to read it.  Attached below is a sample of the material that needs translation:

Tomstone Tuesday - Stephen Brock died Nov. 3, 1839

Here is our first Tombstone Tuesday posting.  This entry is from our member Brad Brock.

Stephen Brock

This is Brad's 4x Great Grandfather  who is buried in a family plot in back of the farmhouse he built in 1808. It is located in Strafford (at the time Barrington), New Hampshire. His father is Brad's current biggest brick wall too. If any body can help he would be most obliged.
