Registration is open for the upcoming week long United States and Canada Research Seminar hosted by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City on October 16-20, 2017. The seminar will be streamed online for free for those who cannot attend in person. The seminar will cover a range of topics from Border Crossings to Vital Records in both the U.S. and Canada. Not only is the schedule available, but several classes have descriptions and handouts online. Remember, handouts will not be available at the event, please print them out and bring them with you. April 15, 2016: Novice Genealogy, 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  This class, taught by an experienced genealogist, will assist those who are new to family history research.  Join others, who are also new to genealogy, and begin building your family tree.  You’ll learn how to locate your ancestors through the use of various types of resources such as: the census, pension lists, church records and more.  Registration required at www.azwvgs.org, click store/classes or events/classes.

Genealogy Jamboree in Cumberland Gap, TN

The Cumberland Gap Tennessee Genealogy and History Group is holding its 6th annual Genealogy Jamboree from June 9-11, 2016.

The Jamboree will feature demonstrations by crafters and military re-enactors. Participants will see blacksmithing, butter making, chair caning, basket weaving, soap making, apple butter making, and more, as they were done by our pioneer ancestors.

Lectures by renowned national, regional, and local speakers and storytelling will be available all three days.

This three day event is free to the public and parking is free in the town of Cumberland Gap. Visit the Cumberland Gap Genealogy Jamboree website for more information and to register.

Free Webinars: U.S. Research Series

FamilySearch began a series of monthly webinars back in April of this year. The focus of those webinars is U.S. Research. These webinars are available to the public for free! All you need is a computer and an internet connection.

Don't know what a webinar is? A webinar is a seminar that is broadcast over the internet. This form of presenting a seminar is much less costly than the traditional, in person method since travel and accommodation costs are not involved. They reach a much wider audience because they can be viewed by anyone around the world. And, since you are watching it from the comfort of your own home, you can do so in your PJs and bunny slippers  if you like.

Free Classes at the Family History Center

Did you miss the "Family History in the 21st Century" Fair on January 25th? Did you want to take one of the classes again? Did you have to give up attending one class because it was presented at the same time another class was presented? You're in luck!
